Samhain Ritual Samhain is an important time of year to us, as everything breaks down and the weather changes there is a lot of extra energy around, even the general atmosphere of this time of year is inviting and we can make use of this with a nice outdoors ritual for the occasion.. Now, the first thing to do is start off with finding a nice spot, usually in the woods would be great but it is not needed, I am doing this in the back yard as the woods are a little too far to get to. Once you have found your spot make sure to get it ready for later, make it comfortable, this can either be done by finding a fallen tree or rock or some sort of platform for a portable alter or somewhere to sit, I made myself a wooden platform in the back yard as the ground is all soggy and wet today. Now once your spot is found you should prepare what materials you are going to use, and get everything ready, I myself find this part and setting up the alter quite enjoyable, for me I have decided to bring a burning bowl, chalice, athame, incense, black candles and some gem stones, as well as picked out some spiced rum as an offering, you can also use apple cider and pumpkin or seasonal foods for an offering. It is good to bathe before a ritual like this too, so you should plan out when it is a good time as depending on where you are it can be very cold, if that is the case try to bathe earlier in the day, otherwise if you are confident the weather will be good then bathe just before the ritual, what you wear is another factor, I am going with plain black clothing and a nice warm black bath robe as I left my proper robe abroad. Once you have everything prepared all that is left is to wait for night to perform it, now midnight id not needed for this ritual but instead around 6-9pm would be great as the light has dimmed and the energy is at its peak. Performing the Ritual Now this ritual can have many variations depending on what personal touch you feel like adding, it is good to start with the Aquarian Standard Ritual and then make your offerings, in addition writing something personal to the Gods to burn is a good addition. I myself am going to offer some spiced rum, something personally written and then take some extra time to meditate on the energies around which I suggest you all do, it may be cold but the energy only gets this concentrated for a short time each year. Remember, you should enjoy performing this ritual, it is a celebration, don't make it a chore.
